- 301 Redirect – Code meaning “moved permanently,” used to point browsers, spiders, etc. to the correct location of a missing or renamed URL. Pages marked with such a code will automatically redirect to another URL.
- 404 Error – “File not found” code for a Web page that displays when a user attempts to access a URL that has been moved, renamed or no longer exists. Designing a custom “404 page” in a user-friendly way can help people stay engaged even when a page is missing.
- Acquisition – Refers to the point in time when a visitor to a website becomes a qualified lead or customer.
- Ad Impression – Occurs each time a consumer sees an ad.
- AdSense – Google AdSense is a pay-per-click advertisement program available to bloggers and Web publishers as a way to generate revenue from their site traffic.
- Ad Serving – Delivery of online adverts to an end user’s computer by an ad management system, targeting different audience groups across multiple sites.
- Ad Unit – Any defined advertising vehicle that can appear in an ad space inside of an application.
- AdWords – Google's pay-per-click (PPC) search-engine marketing program.
- Affiliate Marketing – When a web publisher displays an ad and earns a commission if a visitor performs a specified action on the advertiser’s site.

- Algorithm – The set of rules a search engine uses to determine page relevance and ranking in search results.
- Application Service Provider (ASP) – An online service accessible via the Internet without software installation, easily integrated with other websites.
- Avatar – A picture or cartoon used to represent an individual in chat forums, games, or websites.
- Bandwidth – The transmission rate of a communication line, usually measured in Kbps, indicating data carrying capacity.
- Banner – A long, horizontal online ad, typically running across the top of a page.
- Behavioural Targeting – Using user behavior data to target ads more relevantly.
- Blog – An online space regularly updated with opinions or activities of an individual or group.
- Blogroll – A list of recommended blogs on a blog as a resource for readers.
- Broadband – An always-on internet connection with higher bit rates (128 Kbps or above).
- Broken Links – Links to pages that no longer exist or have moved without redirection, often resulting in a “404 error.”

- Call to Action (CTA) – Instruction in advertising prompting a response from users, such as signing up or clicking a link.

- Click to Call – Service enabling mobile users to initiate a call by clicking a link.

- Cookie – A small file on a user’s device to identify the browser and remember user preferences.
- Conversion – A desired action taken by a visitor, such as purchasing or subscribing.
- Conversion rate – The success metric of an online ad relative to clicks, based on the marketing objective.
- Cost per Action (CPA) – A pricing model charging only when a specific action is completed.
- Cost per Acquisition (CPA) – Cost to acquire a new customer.
- Cost per Click (CPC) – Amount paid by an advertiser per ad click.
- Cost per Mille (CPM) – Cost to show an ad to one thousand viewers.
- Crawler – Automated search engine function indexing pages and following links.
- Crowdsourcing – Gathering content or ratings from multiple users to determine value or relevance.
- CRM – Customer Relationship Management.
- Dashboard – Administrative control area for managing applications or settings.
- Deep-linking Advert – Linking directly to a specific page relevant to the ad, bypassing the homepage.
- Digg – A social bookmarking and content voting site.
- Directory – A manually compiled index of websites, reviewed and updated by humans.
- DMOZ – Open Directory Project, a volunteer-run, human-edited directory.
